More Than 14 Kg Gold Seized at Bengaluru Airport
A Kannada actress was arrested for smuggling more than 14 kg of gold at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted her after she arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight. Officials seized gold worth Rs. 12.56 crore from her.
Frequent Dubai Trips Raised Suspicion
DRI had been monitoring her due to her frequent Dubai visits. She had travelled four times in the last 15 days. Acting on intelligence, officers stopped her upon arrival. She had concealed gold bars in her clothing and wore gold jewelry to avoid detection.
Lavish Home Raid Reveals More Assets
Following her arrest, DRI searched her Lavelle Road residence in Bengaluru. They found gold jewelry worth Rs. 2.06 crore and Indian currency of Rs. 2.67 crore. The total seizure in the case now stands at Rs. 17.29 crore.
Possible High-Level Involvement?
The actress is the daughter of a top-ranking IPS officer in Karnataka. Officials are investigating whether law enforcement officers helped her evade security. She reportedly used her father’s position to get police escorts from the airport. DRI is probing if these officers were aware of her smuggling activities.
After questioning at the DRI headquarters, she was produced before a Bengaluru court. She has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover links to smuggling net
