The Manipal Academy of Higher Education celebrated National Science Day 2026 with a vibrant science exhibition and a distinguished lecture at its Manipal campus on February 28. The Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University welcomed nearly 350 high school students and teachers from the Academy of General Education, Dr TMA Pai Foundation schools, and other institutions, offering them an opportunity to explore its advanced science and technology facilities.
The celebration aimed to spark curiosity and strengthen scientific thinking among young learners. A series of competitions, including science seminars, drawing contests, and model making events, encouraged students to present ideas creatively and engage actively with scientific concepts. The atmosphere across the campus reflected enthusiasm, learning, and collaboration.
One of the key highlights of the day was a large scale science exhibition featuring more than 50 stalls. Students and faculty members showcased innovative scientific models and research-based projects across multiple disciplines. The exhibition provided visitors with practical exposure to emerging technologies and real world applications of science. It also demonstrated how classroom learning can translate into meaningful innovation.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor Technology and Science, in the presence of senior university officials. The initiative underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing scientific temper and encouraging interdisciplinary exploration from an early age.
The formal programme took place at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC, Manipal. The Chief Guest, Dr Hoysall N. Chanakya, former Chief Research Scientist at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Indian Institute of Science, delivered the keynote address. With more than four decades of research experience, he has mentored over 10 doctoral scholars and more than 20 postgraduate students, and led over 50 research and consultancy projects. Since 1978, his work has focused on decentralised bioenergy systems, biogas technologies, wastewater purification, and restoration of water bodies. In his address, he highlighted the importance of scientific innovation in addressing environmental and social challenges and urged students to pursue research that contributes to sustainable development.
The programme was presided over by Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, along with senior leaders including Dr Sharath Rao, Dr P. Giridhar Kini, and Dr Anil K. Bhat.
National Science Day is observed across India to commemorate Sir C V Raman’s discovery of the Raman Effect. Through this celebration, the university reaffirmed its dedication to research excellence, innovation, and inspiring young minds to adopt a scientific approach in life and society.
