WhatsApp has launched its largest global campaign yet, titled ‘Not Even WhatsApp’, aimed at reinforcing its privacy promise to over 3 billion monthly users. The campaign asserts that no one — not even WhatsApp — can see or hear users’ personal messages.
The campaign launched on 20 May 2025, with a striking TV commercial directed by Achowe of Chalk and Cheese Films. It was shot at locations across Delhi, including the banks of the Yamuna river and Chandni Chowk, offering a uniquely local lens on a global privacy message.
The core idea? Your messages are yours alone. Whether it’s voice notes to family, personal selfies, gossip with friends, or late-night secrets, WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption ensures absolute privacy.
This means only you and the person you’re talking to can access messages or calls. No third party — not even WhatsApp — has access.
The 60-second ad brings this to life using relatable, everyday conversations. It highlights the emotional importance of digital privacy, reminding users that what feels ordinary is often deeply personal.
In India, the spot is voiced in Hindi and English by Aamir Khan. The campaign will roll out across 16 Indian states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, and Karnataka.
WhatsApp’s Head of Marketing, Vivian Odior, said the campaign showcases how WhatsApp is the closest thing to an in-person conversation, delivered through creative storytelling rooted in familiar human moments.
The global rollout will span the US, UK, Brazil, Mexico, and India. It will appear across TV, online video, digital media, audio platforms, WhatsApp itself, and (D)OOH (digital out-of-home advertising).
The campaign follows WhatsApp’s recent introduction of “Advanced Chat Privacy.” This new setting adds to the app’s layered privacy features, helping users prevent content from being taken outside of WhatsApp. It’s especially useful when conversations demand an extra layer of protection.
Also highlighted is Privacy Checkup, a step-by-step tool that lets users manage and strengthen their security and customise privacy settings — all in one place. As digital surveillance and data breaches remain top concerns, WhatsApp’s bold move repositions privacy as not just a technical feature, but an emotional value — something deeply tied to trust and everyday connection.
