A major moment for India’s comic book industry unfolded at the Mumbai Comic Con 2026 as Raj Comics and Bharat Atman Studios launched two new comics aimed at blending entertainment with Indian history, patriotism, and cultural storytelling.
The grand launch took place at the Jio World Convention Centre and drew significant attention from comic enthusiasts, pop culture fans, and creators from across the country. Known for creating some of India’s most iconic superheroes such as Nagraj, Super Commando Dhruv, and Doga, Raj Comics is now moving beyond traditional superhero narratives to explore stories rooted in India’s historical and cultural identity.
One of the biggest highlights of the launch was a special comic cover featuring Narendra Modi linked to the story of revolutionary freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma. The visual immediately became a major talking point at the event and generated strong curiosity among visitors and comic collectors.
Raj Comics co-founder Sanjay Gupta said the initiative is not just about creating commercial entertainment but also about reconnecting younger audiences with India’s forgotten heroes and historical legacy through modern storytelling formats. According to him, comics have the power to make history engaging and accessible for today’s digital generation.
Publisher Vasu Gupta described the project as a cultural mission designed to inspire patriotism and awareness about India’s heritage among young readers. He said the aim is to combine visually engaging storytelling with meaningful narratives that reflect India’s historical struggles, values, and achievements.
The comic series has been written by Vishnu Sharma and received an enthusiastic response from visitors at the convention. Fans lined up to get early copies, interact with creators, and witness what many described as a fresh phase in Indian comics storytelling.
Over the years, Indian comic culture has largely been dominated by fantasy, superheroes, and mythology-inspired narratives. However, the new initiative by Raj Comics and Bharat Atman Studios signals a growing interest in stories that combine historical themes with contemporary visual storytelling techniques. Industry observers believe such projects could help revive reading habits among younger audiences while also strengthening interest in Indian history and cultural narratives.
