In a decisive step towards combating malnutrition, the government has intensified its efforts under the Poshan Abhiyaan. Around 300 nutrition kits were distributed to beneficiaries at Aggarwal Dharamshala Bhawan, Shakarpur, Delhi, today.
The initiative was led by the Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road, Transport & Highways, who described Poshan Abhiyaan as a flagship move by the Modi government aimed at improving health, wellness and immunity across vulnerable groups.
Local public representatives, including the MLA of Lakshmi Nagar and several councillors, participated in the event, demonstrating strong community support for the programme.
The Minister explained that Poshan Abhiyaan targets four key groups: children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. The aim is to address malnutrition through a mission-mode approach and ensure holistic community development.
He highlighted that early childhood nutrition is critical for brain development. The campaign strives to provide adequate dietary support to children during their formative years, enabling optimal growth and better health outcomes.
He also praised the Poshan Tracker, a digital tool that allows real-time monitoring of services at Anganwadi Centres. Beneficiaries can now register via the Poshan Tracker Web App, giving them better access to growth tracking, meal distribution, and early childhood education. Anganwadi workers are also empowered with digital tools to manage nutrition services more effectively.
To ensure lasting improvements in health, the Minister emphasised the need for children to grow up in environments rich in nutritious foods. He stressed that promoting balanced, nutrition-rich diets would help reduce anaemia and stunting cases nationwide.
He further stated that proper nutrition is essential for children to reach their full potential and that good dietary habits support both physical and emotional development. Addressing malnutrition, he added, would positively impact India’s human capital and economic productivity. The event closed with a call to action: to make nutritious food accessible for every child and mother, thereby shaping a Healthier and Viksit Bharat.
