The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a groundbreaking Universal Health Policy, aiming to provide free medical treatment up to ₹25 lakh annually for every family in the state. This initiative is set to benefit approximately 1.63 crore families, making healthcare more accessible and affordable across Andhra Pradesh.
Under this policy, families below the poverty line will receive health coverage ranging from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹25 lakh per year through the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust. Families above the poverty line will be eligible for coverage up to ₹5 lakh per year through insurance companies. A total of 3,257 health services will be covered under this scheme, encompassing a wide range of medical treatments.
To streamline the process, treatment approvals will be provided within six hours of patient admission. A control room at the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust will monitor the free health services, ensuring timely and efficient delivery. Each patient will be issued a QR code, allowing them to track the status of their treatment and approvals in real-time.
The policy aims to reduce the financial burden of healthcare for families across the state. By providing comprehensive coverage and efficient systems for treatment approvals and payments, the government seeks to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all residents of Andhra Pradesh.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its people, ensuring that quality healthcare is not a privilege but a right for every resident of Andhra Pradesh.
In addition to the health policy, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the establishment of 10 new medical colleges under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. These colleges, located in Adoni, Madanapalli, Markapuram, Pulivendula, Penugonda, Palacole, Amalapuram, Narsipatnam, Bapatla, and Parvathiuram, are set to start admissions from the 2027–28 academic year.
With these combined efforts, the Andhra Pradesh government is taking significant strides towards building a robust healthcare infrastructure that meets the needs of all its citizens.
