Odisha is making a bold move to strengthen its industrial sector as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation for 27 new industrial projects across 12 districts, with a total investment of ₹25,380 crore. These projects cover a wide range of sectors including chemicals, textiles, plastics, cement, food processing, and pharmaceuticals. The initiative is expected to significantly boost the state’s industrial landscape, creating opportunities for economic growth and employment generation.
The projects are strategically distributed across districts such as Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Koraput, Angul, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Jajpur, and Rayagada. This geographical spread aims to ensure balanced regional development and reduce disparities between urban and rural areas. According to government estimates, these projects will generate over 52,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, offering substantial benefits to local communities and supporting Odisha’s workforce.
The state government has actively supported this industrial push by offering policy incentives, infrastructure facilities, and a business-friendly environment to attract domestic and international investors. Such measures reflect Odisha’s commitment to becoming a preferred destination for industries across multiple sectors. Initiatives like these are in line with the ‘Make in Odisha’ programme, which seeks to position the state as a manufacturing hub and attract large-scale investments.
Several projects have already been highlighted for their scale and impact. For instance, investments in chemicals and pharmaceuticals are expected to strengthen the supply chain and enhance manufacturing capabilities. Textile and apparel projects aim to elevate Odisha’s position in national and international markets, while plastics and cement ventures are set to meet the growing demand in construction and packaging industries. The food processing sector will improve the value chain of agricultural products and reduce post-harvest losses, benefiting farmers and related industries.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasised that these projects not only aim at industrial growth but also at holistic development, creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and boosting local economies. By promoting sectoral diversity and distributing projects across multiple districts, Odisha is taking steps to ensure inclusive growth and long-term economic stability.
With these 27 new industrial ventures, Odisha is poised to witness a transformative change in its industrial and economic landscape. The combination of strategic investment, sectoral diversity, and government support sets the stage for sustainable industrial growth, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a rising hub for manufacturing and employment in India
