On October 4, 2025, Donald Trump intensified the pressure on the Gaza crisis. He ordered Israel to stop all bombings in Gaza immediately. This came right after Hamas indicated they were open to parts of his detailed 20-point peace plan. The main goal? The release of Israeli hostages held since the October 7, 2023 attack. Trump gave a hard Sunday deadline: accept the deal now, or risk a complete breakdown.
The plan offers a path to end the nearly two-year war that has devastated Gaza and killed over 66,000 Palestinians. It calls for Hamas to fully disarm and hand control to a new transitional government. Trump would lead a “Board of Peace” to oversee the process, focusing on rebuilding and creating jobs. In return, Israel would stop airstrikes, withdraw forces, and begin prisoner swaps of hundreds of Palestinians for the 20 remaining living hostages and the bodies of those lost.
Trump shared his view on Truth Social: “Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza.” He put the pressure squarely on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Earlier, Trump warned that missing this “last chance” could trigger “all HELL” on Hamas. Now, with Hamas agreeing to release hostages but still wanting talks on Palestinian rights and Gaza’s long-term future, Trump sees an opportunity. Full disarmament, however, is not confirmed yet.
Israel’s response has been cautious. Officials say they are preparing for hostage returns but haven’t agreed to stop the bombings. Netanyahu’s hardline allies are resisting, with some even considering permanent control of Gaza.
For Trump, this is more than just diplomacy, it’s about legacy. His first term brought the Abraham Accords and talk of a Nobel Prize. A breakthrough in Gaza now could cement his reputation as a Middle East dealmaker.
Hamas’s partial agreement keeps hope alive, but time is running out. Mediators like Qatar are urging adjustments to the plan. If Israel resists, the result could be more deadlock and suffering. Trump is going all-in: Disarm, rebuild, and move forward. The coming days will show whether Netanyahu will agree, and whether this ultimatum brings peace or more violence.
