The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the third edition of the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025, organised by the Indian Army in New Delhi. The event began with an address by the President, who praised the commitment and professionalism of the armed forces in protecting the nation.
She highlighted the consistent dedication of the military, whether in conventional warfare, counter insurgency operations or humanitarian missions. According to her, the forces have always shown resilience, discipline and unwavering courage while safeguarding India’s sovereignty.
The President also spoke about the recent success of Operation Sindoor, describing it as an important achievement in India’s counter terrorism and deterrence strategy. She noted that the operation demonstrated the strength, preparedness and moral clarity of the armed forces, reinforcing India’s commitment to peace as well as national security.
Beyond defence operations, she also emphasised the role of the military in nation building. She mentioned that the armed forces are actively involved in developing border area infrastructure, improving connectivity, supporting local education initiatives and encouraging tourism in remote regions. These efforts, she said, have significantly contributed to the growth and development of border communities.
Addressing the nature of modern warfare, the President explained that conflict today is no longer restricted to traditional land or sea battles. New domains such as cyber space, outer space, information warfare and cognitive influence have emerged as critical areas of concern. She highlighted India’s civilisational vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and stated that the country will continue to maintain strategic autonomy while acting as a responsible global partner.
She expressed confidence in the Indian Army’s ongoing modernisation. According to her, the force is transforming its structures, doctrines and technological capabilities to remain future ready. She added that the increasing participation of young people, particularly women officers and soldiers, reflects growing inclusivity and will inspire many more to join the defence services.
In her concluding remarks, the President said that platforms like the Chanakya Defence Dialogue are important for shaping policies and strengthening national preparedness. She encouraged the armed forces to continue their pursuit of excellence and reaffirmed India’s vision of becoming a secure and developed nation by 2047.
