Global technology giant IBM has launched its first Infrastructure Innovation Centre in India, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s role in global enterprise AI development. The new facility, named the Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center, has been set up at the company’s new India Systems Development Lab campus in Bengaluru.
The centre aims to accelerate enterprise-scale artificial intelligence by combining advanced infrastructure engineering, hybrid cloud capabilities and AI technologies under one roof. With this launch, IBM is reinforcing India’s growing importance as a strategic hub for global technology innovation.
The Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center is designed as a collaborative engineering platform where IBM experts will work closely with enterprises and technology partners. Systems architects and infrastructure specialists from the India Systems Development Lab will partner with clients to co-create scalable and secure AI solutions.
The centre will also collaborate with Independent Software Vendors, Global System Integrators, Global Capability Centres and ecosystem partners to accelerate AI adoption across industries.
By integrating modern infrastructure platforms with hybrid cloud and automation capabilities, the facility aims to help organisations design, test and deploy enterprise AI systems more efficiently. The initiative is expected to support Indian companies that are modernising mission-critical systems to become AI ready.
According to IBM leadership, India is entering a defining phase in its artificial intelligence journey. As businesses adopt AI technologies at scale, reliable infrastructure is becoming the foundation for innovation.
Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, said the centre reflects IBM’s long-term commitment to India’s technology ecosystem. He noted that enterprises across sectors are upgrading their infrastructure to support AI-driven applications and digital transformation.
The company believes India has the potential to emerge as a global AI powerhouse, provided organisations invest in resilient, secure and high-performance infrastructure systems.
Recent research by the IBM Institute for Business Value highlights the growing focus on infrastructure to support artificial intelligence initiatives.
The study found that 58 percent of Indian organisations have increased infrastructure investments due to rising AI demand. It also projected a 19 percent rise in infrastructure budgets in 2025.
In addition, 43 percent of companies are either establishing or planning AI Centres of Excellence, signalling a broader shift from AI experimentation to large-scale enterprise deployment.
With the launch of the Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center, IBM aims to help organisations operationalise AI more effectively. The facility will focus on developing infrastructure that ensures performance, governance, security and reliability across complex enterprise environments.
As businesses increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into core operations, initiatives like this are expected to play a key role in shaping India’s digital future and strengthening its position in the global AI innovation landscape.
