Mumbai witnessed a notable cultural moment as Jefferies India and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) formally unveiled the newly rebranded “Little Theatre supported by Jefferies”, signalling a deeper collaboration between the global investment firm and one of the city’s most respected cultural institutions.
The inauguration ceremony brought together distinguished leaders from India’s financial and cultural sectors. The theatre was officially unveiled by Khushroo N. Suntook, Chairman of NCPA; Deepak Parekh, former chairman of Housing Development Finance Corporation; Keki Mistry, former Vice Chairman and CEO of Housing Development Finance Corporation; and Aashish Agarwal, India Country Head at Jefferies.
The initiative reflects Jefferies’ growing engagement with India’s cultural landscape through its corporate social responsibility programmes. While the company has been associated with NCPA for the past two years, the rebranding of the Little Theatre marks the beginning of a more enduring partnership aimed at supporting artistic expression and cultural dialogue.
Located at Mumbai’s iconic cultural complex at Nariman Point, the Little Theatre has long played a significant role in nurturing new creative voices. Since its inauguration in 1975, the intimate venue has offered an important platform for emerging musicians, dancers, poets and performers.
The theatre features a multipurpose auditorium with a seating capacity of 114, along with a modern recording studio and dedicated listening space. Its compact setting allows audiences to experience performances in a close and engaging environment. Over the decades, the venue has hosted a wide range of events including concerts, literary sessions, film screenings, discussions and seminars.
To celebrate the rebranding, Jefferies organised a special evening that brought together members of India’s investor and corporate community. A highlight of the event was a fireside conversation featuring Christopher Wood, Global Head of Equity Strategy at Jefferies, in dialogue with Mahesh Nandurkar, Managing Director and Head of Research at Jefferies India.
The discussion explored the outlook for Indian financial markets in the context of shifting global economic dynamics. The speakers also reflected on leadership, long term investment perspectives and the broader forces shaping global markets.
Adding a creative touch to the evening, the event concluded with a stand up comedy performance by noted writer and performer Varun Grover, offering guests a blend of humour and cultural expression.
Through the “Little Theatre supported by Jefferies” initiative, the company aims to strengthen spaces that encourage artistic talent while also creating forums for thoughtful conversations. The collaboration highlights how partnerships between the corporate and cultural sectors can help sustain institutions that nurture creativity, dialogue and the performing arts in India.
