Cleartrip is stepping onto a much larger stage. The Flipkart-owned travel platform has announced its entry into train ticket bookings through a partnership with IRCTC, marking a major shift in its ambition to become a complete, multi-modal travel solution.
With this move, Cleartrip now brings together flights, hotels, buses, holiday packages, and trains under one roof. It is no longer just a flight-first platform. It is positioning itself as a one-stop destination for India’s diverse travel needs.
Train travel remains the backbone of India’s mobility system. Every day, millions rely on it for work, family, and long-distance journeys. By integrating IRCTC’s ticketing infrastructure, Cleartrip is tapping into a massive and consistent demand that goes far beyond seasonal travel trends.
The new feature allows users to search, book, and manage train journeys directly within the app. Travellers can check real-time seat availability, track PNR status, view fare details, and select berth preferences. Both General and Tatkal bookings are available, in line with railway guidelines. The aim is simple. Make train booking as seamless as booking a flight.
For Cleartrip, this is not just about adding another service. It is about simplifying the travel experience. Instead of switching between multiple apps for different modes of transport, users can now plan an entire journey in one place. This shift reflects a broader trend in digital platforms moving towards integration rather than specialisation.
Manjari Singhal, Chief Growth and Business Officer at Cleartrip, highlighted the importance of this expansion. She noted that train travel plays a critical role in India’s transport ecosystem and that the company is focused on making booking easier and more accessible for millions of users.
Gaurav Patwari, Chief Business Officer for Air at Cleartrip, pointed to the scale of the opportunity. With over 800 million reserved train passengers annually, the potential is enormous. However, the focus is not just on numbers. Cleartrip aims to stand out through a smoother, faster, and more personalized user experience, powered by predictive tools and intelligent design.
India’s railway network is among the largest and most complex in the world. It serves around 23 million passengers every day and billions annually. By entering this space, Cleartrip is aligning itself with one of the country’s most essential public systems.
The timing of this launch is also significant. As digital adoption continues to rise and users seek convenience, platforms that can offer multiple services in one place are gaining an edge. Cleartrip’s integration of train bookings strengthens its position in a highly competitive online travel market.
Looking ahead, the company plans to extend train booking services to its web platform as well. This will ensure a consistent experience across devices and make the feature accessible to a wider audience.
Cleartrip’s latest move signals a clear direction. The future of travel platforms in India is not just about booking tickets. It is about building ecosystems. With trains now onboard, Cleartrip is moving closer to that vision.
