Berger Paints India Ltd. has completed the beautification of Puri’s iconic Grand Road (Bada Danda), strengthening its association with one of India’s most significant religious and cultural landmarks. The company undertook the large-scale painting initiative for the second consecutive year, enhancing the route that serves as the ceremonial path for the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra.
The project covered nearly 300 buildings located along both sides of the four-kilometre stretch connecting the Shree Jagannath Temple and the Mausi Maa Temple. Spread across approximately 10 lakh square feet, the painting work was completed within a month, giving the entire route a uniform light peach finish accented with white borders.
The refreshed appearance of the Grand Road welcomed millions of devotees who gathered in Puri for this year’s Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of the country’s largest and most revered religious festivals. The initiative was aimed at creating a visually appealing and well-maintained environment for pilgrims and visitors while preserving the traditional character of the historic procession route.
Commenting on the initiative, Berger Paints India Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Abhijit Roy said the company was honoured to contribute to the celebrations and be associated with a festival that holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for millions of people across the country.
He noted that the Grand Road serves as the backdrop to one of India’s most iconic traditions and said Berger Paints believes preserving colour is about much more than improving surfaces. By maintaining the appearance of the Grand Road before the Rath Yatra, the company aimed to enhance the overall experience for devotees, tourists and local residents during the annual festivities.
