Vikram Phadnis’ Hindi directorial debut ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’ made a strong impression at its World Premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026, receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience. The screening was met with loud applause and a standing ovation, marking an encouraging start for the film as it begins its journey through the international festival circuit.
Presented by Anakaya Entertainment and produced by Bina Shah, the film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher and Tahir Raj Bhasin in key roles. For Phadnis, the film represents an important new chapter in his career. Best known as one of India’s leading fashion designers, he has now stepped further into filmmaking with his first Hindi feature. He has previously directed two acclaimed Marathi films.
The emotional response in Melbourne appeared to be particularly meaningful for Phadnis. Following the screening, the filmmaker took to social media to thank the city and IFFM for the warmth shown towards the film. He spoke about the energy inside the theatre and how the audience’s applause and emotional reactions created a moment he would never forget.
Speaking about the response, Phadnis said, “To see the audience respond to Pal Bhar Ke Liye with so much warmth and emotion has been incredibly special. As a filmmaker, you put your heart into a story and hope it finds its way to people, but to experience that connection in a room full of people at the World Premiere in Melbourne was something truly unforgettable.” He also expressed his gratitude to IFFM, Melbourne and everyone who attended the screening.
The film’s principal cast also joined Phadnis in Melbourne for the special premiere. For Saiyami Kher, the occasion carried an added sense of nostalgia. The actress previously appeared at IFFM in 2023 with ‘Ghoomer’, which opened the festival that year. Her return to the festival with ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’ therefore marked a memorable full-circle moment.
Vineet Kumar Singh, who has recently appeared in films including Chhaava and Jaat, also highlighted the significance of beginning the film’s journey on an international platform. The Melbourne premiere gave the film an opportunity to connect with an audience outside India even before its theatrical release in the country.
IFFM Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM also welcomed ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’ into this year’s festival line-up, adding to the significance of its international premiere.
With its Melbourne screening now complete, ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’ is set to continue its journey through the festival circuit before heading towards its theatrical release in India. The strong response at its World Premiere has already generated curiosity around the film and its eventual reception among Indian audiences.
For Vikram Phadnis, the Melbourne premiere marks more than just the beginning of a new film’s journey. It is also an important milestone in his transition from fashion to cinema, with ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’ giving him an opportunity to present his storytelling on a global stage.
