What happens when an entire nation is forced into silence and the simple act of making a phone call becomes an act of courage? ‘Dial 1975’, the upcoming thriller from Spherecho Productions, explores this gripping premise against the politically charged backdrop of India’s Emergency in 1975. The film is set to premiere on Waves OTT on August 21, 2026, bringing together a powerful cast and a story built around survival, secrecy and the desperate need to communicate.
Set during one of the most turbulent periods in modern Indian history, the film follows a group of characters whose lives become connected through a revolutionary prototype believed to be India’s first wireless phone. With communication severely restricted, the device quickly becomes much more than an invention. It represents freedom, hope and the ability to reach another person when the world around them has gone silent.
The wireless phone also becomes the centre of a dangerous struggle. As different factions realise the importance of the prototype, the race to obtain it turns increasingly intense. The film places its characters in a world where trust is fragile, loyalties can change without warning and every decision could have serious consequences. What begins as a technological breakthrough soon becomes a catalyst for chaos.
At its core, ‘Dial 1975’ is not simply a story about technology. It examines what communication means when people are denied the freedom to speak openly. The film uses its historical setting to explore fear, desperation and the instinctive human need to stay connected. Against a climate of uncertainty and political pressure, even one phone call can become a matter of life and death.
The film features a strong ensemble cast led by acclaimed actors Kay Kay Menon and Kirti Kulhari, alongside Pravessh Rana, Vishwanath Chatterjee and Shubham Vardhan. Their characters are caught in a web of conflicting interests, personal motivations and shifting alliances, adding multiple layers to the thriller.
The project is directed by Navneet Behal and Vibhu Kashyap and produced by Ranaksh Rana, Niranjan Das and Kabir Lovee. Shamsi Abbas Razvi and Megha Rana, who serves as Creative Director, are the co-producers. The creative team has also brought together several experienced technicians to build the film’s tense atmosphere.
Som Chavan has handled the editing, while Moses Christopher has composed the film’s score. The cinematography by Dani Salo is expected to play an important role in creating the claustrophobic and suspenseful world of the story, reflecting the paranoia and uncertainty of the period.
With its combination of historical context, technology and high-stakes suspense, ‘Dial 1975’ aims to offer audiences a thriller that goes beyond conventional chase-and-conspiracy narratives. Its central question is both simple and provocative: how far would someone go to communicate when communication itself becomes dangerous?
As the release date approaches, the film promises an intense cinematic journey through a period when silence carries consequences and a single call could potentially change everything. ‘Dial 1975’ premiered on Waves OTT on August 21, 2026.
