There is perhaps no force more powerful than a mother’s love, and Netflix’s upcoming thriller Gandhari explores just how far that love can push a woman. Starring Taapsee Pannu in a physically demanding and emotionally intense role, the film is set to premiere on September 3, 2026, promising audiences a gripping story of courage, sacrifice and a mother’s relentless search for her child.
Written and produced by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Devashish Makhija, Gandhari is set in the fictional town of Joypurra, where danger lurks around every corner. At the centre of the story is Bani, a mother whose world is turned upside down when her daughter goes missing. Driven by an unwavering determination to find her, Bani refuses to surrender despite the obstacles standing in her way.
As Bani gets closer to finding her daughter, her journey takes her into an increasingly dangerous world. Every encounter brings a new challenge, forcing her to confront threats that test both her physical strength and emotional resilience. The film combines hard-hitting action with an intensely personal story, placing a mother’s bond with her child at the heart of the narrative.
For Taapsee Pannu, Gandhari marks another challenging performance, with the actor taking on extensive action sequences while portraying the emotional vulnerability of a mother fighting against impossible odds. Her character’s journey is expected to balance raw physicality with the quiet determination that drives her forward.
The film brings together an ensemble cast including Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna. Their performances add further depth and unpredictability to Bani’s pursuit, with each character contributing to the tense atmosphere surrounding her mission.
Gandhari also marks another collaboration between Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon, following their association with the successful Netflix film Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. Their latest project moves into a darker and more action-oriented space while retaining the emotional storytelling that has become a key part of their creative partnership.
Speaking about the film, Kanika Dhillon described Bani as a woman who refuses to let circumstances define her. She highlighted the character’s raw and relentless journey and praised Taapsee’s commitment to bringing the role to life. Dhillon also expressed excitement about working with Devashish Makhija and the ensemble cast, while continuing her creative partnership with Netflix.
Netflix India’s Director, Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, described Gandhari as a bold and emotionally charged action thriller that transforms a mother’s love into an instinctive and powerful force. She also highlighted the reunion with Taapsee and Kanika Dhillon and their collaboration with filmmaker Devashish Makhija.
With its combination of intense action, emotional stakes and a determined mother at its centre, Gandhari aims to deliver a thriller driven as much by human emotion as by suspense. The film premieres September 3, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
