FedEx has warned the public about an increase in scams across India involving fraudsters posing as its employees. Victims are tricked into believing their parcels contain illegal items and are then threatened with legal action unless they make immediate payments.
Scammers impersonate courier representatives and claim a package linked to the victim contains illegal goods. The victim is then connected to fake law enforcement officials who threaten arrest or legal consequences. To avoid trouble, victims are pressured into transferring money, after which the fraudsters disappear, leaving them at a loss.
FedEx has clarified that it never requests personal or financial information through unsolicited messages and is not affiliated with law enforcement. The company advises people to be cautious of unexpected calls or messages claiming to be from courier services, avoid making payments without verification, and report any suspicious activity.
Those who have fallen victim to such scams are urged to report the incident by calling 1930 or visiting cybercrime.gov.in. FedEx has emphasised the importance of public awareness to prevent further fraud cases.
