In a strategic effort to enhance local tourism, Jammu and Kashmir authorities are exploring new opportunities in the Jammu region, anticipating a significant influx of visitors due to the newly established rail connectivity to Srinagar.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo held a meeting with tourism stakeholders to discuss strategies for promoting local attractions and improving tourism infrastructure. The government is focused on developing diverse tourism packages that encourage visitors to explore lesser-known destinations.
Key attractions include Shiv Khori, a renowned cave shrine, and the Chenab Rail Bridge, which is set to become a major landmark.
In addition, the administration has proposed the introduction of MetroLite lines in Srinagar and Jammu, which aim to enhance the public transportation system. The project includes a 25 km line in Srinagar and a 23 km line in Jammu, utilising the MetroLite system known for its cost-effectiveness.
Furthermore, the proposed Amritsar–Jammu High-Speed Rail Corridor is expected to reduce travel time between New Delhi and Jammu, boosting economic opportunities and improving connectivity for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine.
These initiatives demonstrate the administration’s commitment to sustainable tourism development and improved regional connectivity.
