After receiving widespread appreciation during its theatrical run, the critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Khalid Ke Shivaji’ is now available for audiences worldwide on Apple TV, BookMyShow Stream and YouTube Movies. The film’s digital release gives viewers another opportunity to watch a socially relevant story centred on humanity, equality and the timeless ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Presented by PP Cine Production, the film offers an emotional and thought-provoking narrative that explores themes of justice, compassion and social harmony. Inspired by the values associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the story highlights the importance of mutual respect beyond barriers of religion, caste and community.

The film features performances by Priyadarshan Jadhav, Bharat Ganeshpure, Sushama Deshpande, Kailas Waghmare and Snehalata Tagde, while Krish More plays the lead role of Khalid. It is directed by Raj Pritam More, written by Kailas Waghmare and produced by Michael Thevar and Sushama Thevar. Michael Thevar, President of the US-based mental healthcare organisation Omni Health Care Services, played a key role in supporting the project.

Expressing his excitement about the OTT release, director Raj Pritam More said ‘Khalid Ke Shivaji’ is his first Marathi feature film and represents nearly three years of dedication and hard work. He said he is delighted that the film is now reaching viewers across the globe through multiple digital platforms. He also thanked producer Michael Thevar, the cast and crew, and the people of Akola for their support during filming.

The director explained that the film follows the journey of an innocent boy named Khalid, who becomes an unintended victim of social prejudice. As he searches for answers, he encounters discrimination based on religion, caste, gender, community and ethnicity. Through the perspective of a child, the film encourages audiences to embrace equality, humanity and compassion.

Producer Michael Thevar said society needs stories that bring people together rather than divide them. According to him, Khalid’s journey helps viewers understand the deeper values of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, delivering a message that humanity should always stand above religious and social differences.

The story centres on Khalid, a young Muslim boy who is mocked at school by being called “Afzal Khan”. Troubled by the prejudice he faces, he begins searching for answers. His journey eventually introduces him to the life and teachings of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, helping him discover the true meaning of justice, leadership and compassion.

Set against the backdrop of increasing religious and social polarisation, the film presents a unique narrative by showing a Muslim child discovering the philosophy of Shivaji Maharaj. This distinctive approach has resonated strongly with audiences and critics alike.

The film has also earned recognition on the international festival circuit. It was officially selected for the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, while also securing selections for the IFFI Indian Panorama, Goa 2025, and the India Focus Special Screening section at the Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival.

Shot across Akola, Amravati and Nagpur in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, the film authentically showcases the local culture and the Varhadi dialect. It also provides a platform for talented regional artists, highlighting emerging performers from Vidarbha.

With its global OTT release, ‘Khalid Ke Shivaji’ is now accessible to audiences who missed it in cinemas or wish to revisit its inspiring message. Combining an emotional story with strong social themes, the film offers a meaningful cinematic experience for viewers of all ages.
