A vibrant ceremony marked the opening of Madhmaheshwar Temple’s doors on 21 May 2025. Pilgrims gathered amid chants and drumbeats.
Preparations began two days earlier at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. On 18 May, priests installed the mobile idol on its palanquin. The next morning, the procession set off for Rakeshwari Temple in Ransi village.
On 20 May, the doli reached Gaundar, the final stop before the shrine. Devotees lined the route under fluttering flags.
At first light on 21 May, the palanquin arrived at the 3,497 m-high hilltop temple. Priests performed homa and chanted Vedic hymns. At 11:30 AM, they drew open the ancient doors, welcoming worshippers for a six-month pilgrimage season.
Madhmaheshwar sits in Gaundar village, Rudraprayag district. It ranks as the second of the five revered Panch Kedar shrines. Pilgrims trek 16–18 km from Ransi to reach it.
Temple committee officials and district officers oversaw the rites. They decorated the sanctuary with marigolds and roses. Observers noted the seamless coordination and strict safety norms.
Devotees from across India braved steep trails. They carried offerings of incense, fruit and sweets. Many described the opening ritual as deeply moving.
The season runs until October or November. Then winter snows again seal the gates. Until next spring, priests will tend the idol at Ukhimath.
With the doors ajar, Madhmaheshwar welcomes seekers of peace, strength and divine grace.
