Mumbai is in for wet days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall and gusty winds. These are expected between May 21 and May 24.
The pre-monsoon activity is unusual. It comes much earlier than past years. This shift marks an early monsoon-like pattern over the region.
Cyclonic stir over Arabian sea
A low-pressure zone in the Arabian Sea is gaining strength. It could turn into a depression. This is pushing moisture-laden winds toward the Konkan coast.
IMD has warned of strong gusts across the region. Wind speeds in parts of Maharashtra may hit 50–60 km/h. Fishermen are advised to stay ashore till May 24.
Sea conditions remain rough. High waves and localised flooding are possible in coastal areas.
What to expect in Mumbai
Mumbai’s skies will stay cloudy. Intermittent heavy rain is likely over the next 48 hours. Maximum temperature may reach 34°C. Minimum could stay around 26°C.
Humidity is high. With waterlogging and traffic jams already reported, citizens are urged to stay alert.
Monsoon May knock early
According to IMD experts, the southwest monsoon could hit Kerala by May 24 or 25. That’s nearly a week early.
Mumbai may see the monsoon’s arrival by the first week of June. Usually, it begins around June 11.
