For generations, the Shrimad Bhagavatam, also known as the Bhagavata Mahapurana, has been more than a sacred text. It has been a source of stories, spiritual wisdom and teachings through which devotees and readers have explored the life and divine journey of Lord Krishna.
Now, one of India’s most revered spiritual narratives is preparing to make its way to the big screen in an ambitious new live action adaptation.
Sagar Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is set to unveil the first teaser poster of Shrimad Bhagavatam Part One on September 10, giving audiences their first visual glimpse of a project that aims to bring the epic’s vast world to theatrical audiences.
The upcoming franchise is being developed by Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, carrying forward the storytelling legacy associated with the late Dr Ramanand Sagar, whose landmark television adaptation of Ramayan became a defining moment in Indian television history.
A seven film theatrical journey
What makes the project particularly ambitious is its scale. Shrimad Bhagavatam is being developed as a seven film theatrical saga, inspired by the ancient spiritual narrative and its many stories surrounding Lord Krishna, his teachings and the world in which they unfold.
Rather than attempting to tell the entire story in a single film, the franchise is planned as a long form cinematic journey. Each instalment is expected to contribute to the larger narrative, creating a connected series of films for audiences.
For now, however, SPE is keeping much of Shrimad Bhagavatam Part One under wraps. Details about the film’s storyline, cast, characters and other major elements have not yet been revealed.
That silence could make the September 10 reveal even more significant.
First glimpse arrives on September 10
The teaser poster is expected to provide audiences with their first indication of the visual world being created for the franchise. While it may not reveal the complete story, the poster is likely to establish the project’s creative direction, atmosphere and visual identity.
For Sagar Pictures Entertainment, the project also represents an important new chapter. The production house is building on a legacy of bringing Indian epics and spiritual stories to mass audiences, while attempting to present them through a contemporary theatrical format.
The challenge is considerable. Shrimad Bhagavatam carries centuries of cultural and spiritual significance, making its cinematic interpretation a project that will naturally attract attention from both devoted audiences and film lovers.
The September 10 teaser poster will therefore be more than just a first look. It will offer the first clue about how this much-loved narrative is being imagined for the modern big screen.
With a seven film journey planned, Shrimad Bhagavatam is shaping up as one of Sagar Pictures Entertainment’s most ambitious projects yet. As the first poster arrives, audiences will finally get their first glimpse of the world that could unfold across the franchise in the years ahead.
