Global technology leader ABB is significantly expanding its footprint in Karnataka with new manufacturing campuses, product line expansions, service centres, and training facilities. The investment will support critical sectors including data centres, metro rail, renewable energy, infrastructure, and metals.
The expansion builds on ABB’s long-standing presence in Bengaluru, one of its key manufacturing and technology hubs in India. ABB Group CEO Morten Wierod recently led the groundbreaking of a new integrated Motion facility in Peenya and inaugurated the Electrification and Automation Nelamangala Campus 2 on Kunigal Road. With these additions, ABB now operates three manufacturing locations in Karnataka with multiple shopfloors, employing over 3,000 people.
Sanjeev Sharma, Country Head and Managing Director of ABB India, said, “This expansion reflects ABB’s long-term commitment to India and our local-for-local strategy. By strengthening our manufacturing and technology capabilities in Karnataka, we are bringing advanced ABB technologies closer to customers, enabling industries to improve energy efficiency, digitalise operations and support India’s infrastructure growth.”
ABB’s Motion business at Peenya is adding two new facilities across 6,100 sq m., accommodating up to 300 employees. The campus will produce energy-efficient motors, including flameproof designs, roller table variants, and large smoke ventilation models. Low-voltage drives and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) will also be manufactured. The site will host a service and training centre with digital tools and remote diagnostics to support customers throughout the equipment lifecycle. Over the past 12 years, ABB’s motors and drives in India have delivered approximately 20 TWh in annual energy savings—equivalent to nearly half of Delhi’s yearly electricity consumption.
At Nelamangala, a 16,470 sq m. multi-business hub will expand Electrification and Automation manufacturing, covering smart power technologies, gas analyser integration, service labs, excitation systems, and high-power rectifiers. Power management solutions for data centres will scale nearly tenfold. ABB’s low and medium voltage systems already power over 30% of India’s hyperscale data centres.
The investments also support ABB’s Make in India initiatives, producing excitation systems, blending facilities, automation staging cabinets, and high-power rectifiers for local and regional markets. Following a $75 million investment in 2026, along with $35 million in 2025, ABB is creating more than 300 skilled jobs in engineering, operations, and R&D, reinforcing Karnataka’s position as a hub for technology, manufacturing, and industrial innovation.
This expansion strengthens ABB’s local manufacturing, develops specialised skills, and supports regional supplier networks, reflecting its commitment to India’s industrial growth and sustainable technological advancement.
