Do We Really Need Women’s Day?
Strange, isn’t it? We live in a world where half the population is female, yet we need a dedicated day to remind ourselves that women deserve respect, equality, and basic human rights.
Now, pause and think, why don’t we need a Men’s Day to remind people that men deserve fair treatment? The answer is simple. The world already runs in favour of men.
Women, on the other hand, have had to fight for everything, education, equal pay, leadership roles, safety, and even control over their own bodies. If true equality existed, we would not need a Women’s Day at all.

The Hard Truth: Is the World Really Fair to Women?
Let’s not sugarcoat it. The world has been unfair to women for thousands of years. History was written by men, rules were set by men, and power was kept by men. Even today, the discrimination continues.

The Numbers Speak for Themselves
The gender pay gap
Women still earn 20% less than men globally for the same work. At the current rate, it will take 131 years to close this gap!
Education discrimination
Over 122 million girls worldwide are denied education just because of their gender. In Afghanistan, the Taliban has banned girls from secondary and higher education entirely.
Violence against women
1 in 3 women worldwide has faced physical or sexual violence. Every 11 minutes, a woman is murdered by her partner or a family member.
Women in leadership
Women make up half the world’s population but hold less than 10% of global leadership positions.
Shocking? It should be!

Why Do Some Countries Lead While Others Lag?
When we look at the world, we see two extremes—nations where women thrive and nations where they are still struggling for basic dignity.
Where women have equality and freedom:
- Iceland: The best country for gender equality. Women hold 90% of leadership roles.
- Norway: 45% of parliamentarians are women. Equal pay is a legal right.
- New Zealand: The first country to grant women the right to vote. Women lead in politics today.
- Sweden and Finland: Paid parental leave for both genders, strong female presence in business and governance.
Where women still struggle:
- Afghanistan: Women can’t go to school, work, or even walk alone without a male guardian.
- Saudi Arabia: Women gained the right to drive only in 2018!
- Iran: Women face jail time for refusing to wear a hijab.
- India, Pakistan and Bangladesh: Child marriages, female foeticide, and honour killings still exist in many regions.
Now, here’s the question, why are some nations leading while others are still stuck in the past?
The answer is simple: Mindset.

The Real Villain: A Global Disease Called Patriarchy
For centuries, women have been told they are weaker, less intelligent, and unfit for leadership. Society has conditioned them to be silent, submissive, and dependent.
- For generations, women were restricted to kitchens while men ruled the world.
- Women were told they were too emotional for politics and too fragile for physical work.
- Men controlled wealth, property, and even women’s bodies.
Even in the 21st century, the invisible chains of patriarchy still hold women back.
But here’s the good news, change is happening. Women are rising, breaking stereotypes, and proving that they belong everywhere.

The True Celebration of Women, Not a Day, But a Lifetime
Let’s be real. If we need a special day to remind the world to respect women, haven’t we already failed as a society?
Think about it:
- Do we celebrate Men’s Day to remind the world that men deserve rights? No, because men already have them.
- Then why do women need a Women’s Day? Because they are still fighting for what should be theirs by birth.
The truth is, celebrating women once a year is not enough. Real celebration is in our daily actions, equal opportunities, fair wages, shared responsibilities, and unconditional respect.

Simple Steps to Create a Better World
You don’t need power, money, or influence to make a change. You just need to do three things:
Speak up against injustice
- If you see a woman being treated unfairly, don’t stay silent. Raise your voice.
- Whether at home, work, or in society, stand against discrimination.
Support gender equality in your own life
- Share responsibilities at home. Housework is not a woman’s job—it is a family’s responsibility.
- If you are an employer, ensure equal pay and a safe workspace for women.
Educate yourself and others
- Gender equality starts with awareness.
- Challenge stereotypes. Encourage education for girls.

The World We Deserve
We don’t need one Women’s Day a year. We need 365 Women’s Days every year.
Because a world that celebrates, respects, and uplifts women is a world worth living in.

So, ask yourself, will you be part of the change?
If the answer is yes, start today.
