India need to score 252 runs to win the Champions Trophy today in Dubai, against New Zealand. In a high stakes ICC Champions Trophy, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat.
With the coveted title on the line, the Kiwis displayed resilience against India’s disciplined bowling attack. New Zealand’s innings began with Will Young and Rachin Ravindra providing a brisk start. Young, however, fell for 15 after being trapped lbw by Varun Chakravarthy. Ravindra played aggressively, scoring 37 off 29 balls, but was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav just as he was looking dangerous. Skipper Kane Williamson departed cheaply for 11, giving a return catch to Yadav, leaving New Zealand at 75 for 3 in the 13th over.
The middle order was steadied by Daryl Mitchell, who top-scored with a patient 63 off 101 balls. He held the innings together even as Tom Latham (14) fell lbw to Ravindra Jadeja, and Glenn Phillips (34) was bowled by Chakravarthy. Mitchell’s dismissal in the 46th over brought in Michael Bracewell, who played a crucial unbeaten knock of 53 from just 40 deliveries, smashing three fours and two sixes to propel New Zealand past 250.
Mitchell Santner contributed 8 runs before being run out by KL Rahul in the final over, while Nathan Smith remained unbeaten on 0. The Indian bowlers kept things tight, with Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Chakravarthy (2/45) leading the attack. Jadeja (1/30) and Mohammed Shami (1/74) chipped in with a wicket each, while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya remained wicketless.
As India gears up to chase 252 for the title, all eyes will be on the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to provide a solid start. With a deep batting line-up and favourable conditions under the Dubai lights, the final remains evenly poised.
