The Ministry of Coal has advanced India’s Coal Gasification Initiative by issuing Letters of Award (LOAs) to selected applicants under Category II of the ₹8,500 crore Coal Gasification Incentive Scheme. Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, presented the awards in the presence of Additional Secretary Ms. Vismita Tej, OSD (Technical) Shri Asheesh Kumar, and Director (Technical) Shri BK Thakur.
Awarded Projects
Category II: Private Sector/Government PSUs

- Jindal Steel and Power Limited (Angul, Odisha)
The company will receive ₹569.05 crore for its 2 MMTPA coal gasification project. With a total investment of ₹3,793 crore, the project aims to produce Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using coal gasification. Additionally, a Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) plant will capture 30 TPD of CO₂ for conversion into valuable products. - New Era Cleantech Solution Private Limited (Bhadravati, Chandrapur, Maharashtra)
The company secured ₹1,000 crore in incentives for its coal gasification project, which aims to produce 0.33 MMTPA of Ammonium Nitrate and 0.1 MMTPA of Hydrogen. The total project cost stands at ₹6,976 crore. The initiative includes Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) technology, with the captured CO₂ converted into methanol. The planned CO₂-to-methanol plant will have a capacity of 3,000 TPD (1.0 MMTPA). - Greta Energy Limited (MIDC Bhadravati, Chandrapur, Maharashtra)
Greta Energy received ₹414.01 crore in incentives for its coal gasification project. With a total investment of ₹2,763 crore, the project aims to produce 0.5 MMTPA of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI).
