Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to roll out the Mahila Samriddhi Scheme on March 8, offering ₹2,500 per month to eligible women in the city. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to women from economically weaker backgrounds.
Who can apply?
As per The Indian Express, women must meet the following criteria to qualify:
- Must be a resident of Delhi.
- Annual family income should be under ₹3 lakh.
- Should not be a taxpayer.
- Should not be employed in a government job.
- Should not be receiving aid from any other government scheme.
- Age must be between 18 and 60 years.
Application process
The Delhi government is developing an online portal to assist applicants. The IT department is also working on a new verification system to prevent duplicate or ineligible applications. The system will cross-check details to ensure only those meeting the criteria receive aid.
Documents likely required
Although the official registration process is yet to be finalised, applicants may need:
- Aadhaar Card
- Ration Card
- Address Proof
- Registered Mobile Number
As reported by The Indian Express, application forms will be linked to Aadhaar to verify the applicant’s name, address, bank details, and family information. If a woman is found to be a taxpayer or already receiving government aid, her application will be rejected.
Political context
This scheme was among the key promises made by the BJP before the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The party had initially announced it would implement the initiative in its first cabinet meeting, but the launch was postponed. Now, with the government moving forward, women eligible for this financial aid can expect applications to open soon.
