Celebrity culture has always been built on admiration, excitement and public interaction. However, in today’s digital age, the relationship between stars and fans is becoming increasingly complex. A recent incident involving actress Janhvi Kapoor during a promotional event for her upcoming film has reignited discussions about celebrity safety, fan behaviour and the growing challenges of managing public appearances.
A video from the event, which quickly went viral on social media, showed an unexpected fan intrusion that visibly startled the actress. While such incidents often generate debate online, wellness expert Dr Deepti Bhatnagar believes they reveal a much larger issue surrounding fame and personal boundaries.
According to Dr Bhatnagar, celebrity appearances have become significantly more challenging in recent years. Crowds are larger, excitement levels are higher, and every public moment has the potential to be captured and shared across social media platforms within seconds.
“Incidents like this highlight how challenging celebrity appearances have become,” she says. “As crowds grow larger and every interaction can instantly go viral, security teams often have to react quickly to prevent situations from escalating.”
The discussion, however, is not simply about security. At its heart lies the question of how society views celebrities and whether admiration sometimes crosses the line into intrusion.
Dr Bhatnagar is careful not to criticise fans as a whole. She acknowledges that the vast majority of admirers approach public figures with respect and genuine affection. Yet she points out that highly charged public environments can sometimes blur the boundaries between enthusiasm and personal space.
“While most fans admire celebrities respectfully, there are moments when enthusiasm crosses into personal space, blurring the line between appreciation and intrusion,” she explains. “That doesn’t mean the line has disappeared, but it can become difficult to maintain in high-energy public settings.”
Her comments reflect a growing concern within the entertainment industry. Celebrities often attend events to engage with audiences, promote projects and connect with supporters. However, Dr Bhatnagar believes that public visibility should never come at the cost of personal safety.
“Celebrities attending public events should expect attention, but they should not be expected to tolerate unsafe crowd conditions,” she says. “Strong security is increasingly a necessity to protect both public figures and the people around them.”
The rise of social media has further intensified the issue. Moments that might once have remained isolated incidents are now recorded from multiple angles and circulated globally within minutes. As a result, public conversations around celebrity safety have become more frequent and more visible.
Dr Bhatnagar notes that the increasing number of viral videos showing security personnel intervening may not necessarily indicate that incidents are happening more often. Instead, it may reflect how quickly such moments are documented and shared online.
“The growing visibility of security interventions may reflect both the rise of social media and the increasing difficulty of managing large crowds,” she says. “Every incident is now recorded, shared and analysed within minutes.”
One of the most common images seen in these viral clips is that of bodyguards stepping in to shield celebrities from unexpected situations. While these actions can sometimes appear dramatic, Dr Bhatnagar views them primarily as protective measures.
“When a bodyguard steps in during a crowd rush, it is primarily an act of protection,” she explains. “At the same time, it also serves as a reminder that modern fame can bring intense physical pressures that require constant security management.”
As celebrity culture continues to evolve, Dr Deepti Bhatnagar’s observations highlight an important reality. Admiration and accessibility remain central to the connection between stars and their audiences. Yet respect for personal boundaries is equally important. In an era where every interaction can become a viral moment, maintaining that balance may be one of the biggest challenges facing public figures today.
