A remarkable spiritual event brought together thousands of people from around the world as devotees collectively recited verses from the Bhagavad Gita in a historic online gathering. Organised by Chinmaya Mission as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, the initiative transformed into a global expression of unity, devotion and peace.
Titled “Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam”, the event took place on May 9, 2026, and featured the simultaneous chanting of the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, known as Purushottama Yoga. Participants from more than 70 countries joined the virtual programme, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere that crossed borders, cultures and time zones.
According to organisers, over 35,000 people participated in the event online. The large-scale initiative was carefully coordinated with the support of nearly 1,000 trained volunteers stationed across different parts of the world. These volunteers managed technical operations, guided participants during the recitation process and supervised recordings required for the official submission to Guinness World Records.
The event was conducted in collaboration with Cisco Webex, which provided the digital infrastructure needed to host such a massive online gathering. Organisers have submitted the programme for Guinness World Records recognition under the category of “largest online simultaneous recitation”.
The chanting of the Bhagavad Gita was not just seen as a religious activity, but also as a symbol of global harmony and shared spiritual consciousness. As thousands recited the sacred verses together, the online event evolved into a collective prayer for peace and well-being.
Speaking about the initiative, Swami Swaroopananda said that “Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam” was envisioned as a spiritual offering that could unite humanity through the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. He stated that when thousands of people chant together with a common purpose, it creates a powerful energy dedicated to universal peace and inner harmony.
He further described the overwhelming participation as a historic milestone in Chinmaya Mission’s 75-year journey. According to him, the event reflected the growing global interest in India’s spiritual traditions and demonstrated how technology can be used to connect people through shared values and spiritual practices.
Over the decades, Chinmaya Mission has played a major role in spreading the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Vedantic philosophy across the world. Founded by Swami Chinmayananda, the organisation has established centres in multiple countries focused on spiritual learning, education and community service.
The success of “Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam” highlights how spiritual organisations are increasingly embracing digital platforms to reach wider audiences. It also reflects the enduring relevance of the Bhagavad Gita in today’s fast-changing world, where people continue seeking inner balance, purpose and peace.
As the world now awaits the official confirmation from Guinness World Records, the event has already left a lasting impact by bringing together thousands of voices in one shared spiritual experience.
