Flight operations in Goa faced major disruptions on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall and low visibility. Airlines were forced to divert flights and issue advisories as weather conditions worsened through the day.
According to officials, multiple flights from Mumbai and Pune were unable to land at Goa’s Manohar International Airport. At least two flights were redirected to Bengaluru after visibility at the airport dropped below safe limits for landing.
Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Goa, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert. The IMD warned of intense rain spells, strong winds, and lightning activity for the next 48 hours.
Airline operators responded swiftly. IndiGo, one of the busiest carriers to Goa, issued a travel advisory for passengers flying to and from the state. The advisory warned of possible delays, diversions, or cancellations due to poor weather conditions.
IndiGo urged passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. It also encouraged travellers to opt for web check-in and carry hand baggage to avoid delays at check-in counters.
The Manohar International Airport, located in North Goa, is one of two major airports serving the coastal state. Known for its scenic approach and tourism-driven traffic, the airport often experiences operational challenges during the monsoon.
Goa’s airport authorities also appealed to passengers to remain patient and cooperate with airline staff. Additional ground support and help desks were deployed to manage the situation.
Local officials reported waterlogging in several low-lying areas, but no major casualties or damage was reported. Emergency services remain on standby as more heavy rainfall is expected through the week.
With the tourist season winding down and the monsoon setting in, travellers are advised to keep track of weather updates and flight changes.
