A sudden tyre burst caused a Hyderabad-bound bus to lose control and crash into a container truck on the Nellore highway, resulting in three deaths and several injuries. The accident occurred in the early hours, leaving passengers in shock and prompting a swift rescue operation.
According to police reports, the bus, carrying more than 30 passengers, was travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad when one of its tyres suddenly burst. The driver lost control, and the vehicle collided with a stationary container lorry on the side of the road. The impact caused severe damage to the bus, trapping many passengers inside.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of panic as smoke and fire began to engulf the vehicle. A passing truck driver reportedly broke the windows of the bus to help passengers escape, saving lives in the process. Several passengers sustained burns and injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the bus driver, lorry driver, and a cleaner on the bus died in the crash. The police and local emergency services are investigating the cause of the tyre burst and assessing whether vehicle maintenance or road conditions contributed to the accident.
This incident highlights the dangers posed by sudden mechanical failures on highways. Experts note that tyre blowouts at high speeds can have catastrophic consequences, especially on busy national highways. Safety measures such as regular vehicle checks, emergency exits, and awareness for passengers can reduce fatalities in such incidents.
The accident has sparked calls from local authorities and road safety organisations to implement stricter regulations and maintenance checks for buses and trucks travelling long distances. Commuters are urged to remain vigilant and report any visible vehicle faults while travelling.
The tragedy on the Nellore-Hyderabad route serves as a grim reminder of the risks faced by passengers on Indian highways and the importance of preventive safety measures.
