Mumbai: The 11th International Conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), held at Chandrabhan Sharma College in Mumbai, emerged as a significant platform where tradition and modern innovation came together in meaningful dialogue. Centred on the theme “IKS: Bridging Tradition, Innovation and Sustainability,” the conference showcased the growing global relevance of India’s ancient knowledge systems.
Organised in collaboration with the University of Mumbai and The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, the event brought together scholars, researchers, academicians and students from across the world. The conference served as a meeting ground for intellectual exchange, highlighting how traditional Indian wisdom can address contemporary global challenges.
During the inaugural session, Dr Vaishali Rajput, In-Charge Principal, emphasised that Indian traditions continue to offer timeless guidance, even in a rapidly evolving modern world. Chief Guest Rajan Velukar highlighted the importance of equipping younger generations with both modern skills and traditional knowledge, including practices rooted in Ayurveda and Yoga.
The conference featured a series of technical sessions that explored themes such as sustainability, innovation and cultural heritage. Experts, including Prof. Dr Varadaraj Bapat from IIT Bombay, discussed the scientific and practical relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems in today’s context. International speaker Alok Gupta provided a global perspective, explaining how Indian philosophical ideas are increasingly influencing global thought and practices.
The academic strength of the conference was reflected in the overwhelming response it received. A total of 104 research papers were submitted, out of which 85 were selected after a rigorous peer-review process. This demonstrated the growing interest in integrating traditional knowledge with modern academic research.
The valedictory session reinforced the importance of heritage-based research and innovation. Speakers emphasised that Indian Knowledge Systems are not merely relics of the past, but living frameworks that can contribute to building a more balanced, inclusive and sustainable future.
Overall, the conference successfully created a space for dialogue between tradition and innovation. It highlighted how India’s rich intellectual heritage can play a vital role in shaping global solutions, making IKS increasingly relevant in today’s interconnected world.
