India recorded 9.52 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in 2023, marking a 47.9% increase compared to 2022, according to data from the Bureau of Immigration. The rise in tourist numbers contributed to Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) of ₹2,31,927 crore, reflecting a 36.5% growth.
Factors Driving Tourism Growth
The surge in FTAs is attributed to the post-pandemic revival of international travel, increasing confidence in India as a culturally rich destination, and enhanced air connectivity. The development of tourism infrastructure and targeted marketing campaigns—both domestically and internationally—have further strengthened India’s position as a global tourist hub.
