Indian Railways has launched its all-in-one mobile app, SwarRail, aiming to revolutionise train travel for millions of users. Designed as a “super app,” SwarRail integrates various railway services in a single, user-friendly platform.
What is SwarRail?
SwarRail, developed by IRCTC and RailTel, merges ticket bookings, real-time train status, station info, e-catering, and hotel reservations into one application. It eliminates the need for multiple railway-related apps.
The app is now live on Google Play Store, with an iOS version expected soon.
Key features
- Unified Booking: Book train tickets, retiring rooms, and hotels from one app.
- Real-Time Train Tracking: Get live updates on train movement and estimated arrival.
- E-Catering Services: Order meals directly to your seat using the app.
- AI-Powered Chatbot: Ask questions and get assistance from an AI-based virtual assistant.
- Multilingual Support: The app supports 11 Indian languages, improving accessibility for users nationwide.
- Simplified Interface: Built with a clean and intuitive design for faster navigation.
Why it matters
Until now, passengers used different apps for ticketing, food, and train info. SwarRail combines these into one digital ecosystem. This improves convenience and reduces app clutter on mobile devices.
Behind the tech
SwarRail uses AI and modern UI/UX design to personalise services. IRCTC claims the app will reduce dependency on unofficial apps and improve data security for users.
Future additions
Upcoming updates may include integration with local transport, AI-based travel suggestions, and tourism packages.
