In a must-win IPL 2025 clash, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stunned Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a dominant six-wicket victory in Match 61, played at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.
Batting first, LSG posted 205/7. Mitchell Marsh (65) and Aiden Markram (61) shared a 115-run opening stand. But the middle order failed to accelerate in the death overs. Nicholas Pooran’s 45 was the only other notable contribution.
In reply, SRH opener Abhishek Sharma went berserk. He smashed 59 off just 20 balls, including four back-to-back sixes off Ravi Bishnoi. His knock gave SRH a fiery start in the powerplay.
Heinrich Klaasen (47) and Kamindu Mendis ensured the momentum didn’t slip. SRH chased down the target in 18.2 overs, finishing at 206/4, and keeping their playoff chances alive.
The defeat officially knocked LSG out of playoff contention. Skipper Rishabh Pant lamented injury setbacks as a major reason for the inconsistent season.
SRH now climbs the points table, positioning themselves strongly for qualification. LSG, meanwhile, will play out the remainder of their matches for pride.
