Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a major Rs 4,700 crore transmission project in Maharashtra aimed at strengthening the state’s power infrastructure and supporting renewable energy growth.
The project will help evacuate 4,500 MW of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major power consumption centres in Maharashtra, including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune and Satara.
AESL won the project through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process after emerging as the lowest bidder. The project will be developed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
The Satara transmission project will create a stronger power transmission network between southern and western India. It will also support the growing pumped storage ecosystem, which plays an important role in balancing renewable energy supply.
The project includes the development of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, the Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line and other supporting transmission infrastructure.
Once completed, the project will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s network. The company currently operates one of India’s largest private transmission networks.
Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, said pumped storage projects are becoming essential for India’s clean energy transition by providing flexibility and reliability to integrate renewable energy into the national grid.
The project comes at a time when India is expanding its renewable energy capacity and working towards its target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. The new transmission infrastructure is expected to improve grid stability and support the country’s renewable energy goals.
