Wet Wake-Up! Mumbai sees light showers, heavy rain ahead
Mumbai residents woke up to cool, damp weather as light showers brushed across the city early this morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now forecast heavier rainfall later in the day, prompting civic authorities to issue alerts.
Morning showers signal weather shift
Parts of Mumbai, including South Mumbai and western suburbs, received brief rain spells around dawn. While the rain brought relief from recent humidity, it also signalled the onset of more intense downpours ahead.
The IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall across various parts of the city and surrounding districts throughout the day.
IMD issues rainfall warning
According to the IMD, rain activity is expected to intensify by evening, possibly leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds may also occur.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during heavy rainfall, avoid flood-prone zones, and keep emergency supplies ready.
Precautionary measures initiated
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has activated its disaster response teams and alerted local ward offices. Pumps are being deployed in flood-prone spots, and drainage systems are under monitoring.
Commuters are being warned to expect delays on suburban rail and road networks during peak hours if rainfall worsens.
Monsoon onset likely soon
These pre-monsoon showers indicate that the southwest monsoon is closing in on Maharashtra. The full monsoon onset is likely to hit the city in early June, as per seasonal estimates.
Public advised to stay updated
The IMD continues to monitor the weather closely and will issue further alerts as needed. Citizens are encouraged to track official forecasts and avoid spreading misinformation.
