The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of BIT Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Addressing the gathering, she underscored the rapid advancements in technology, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), and their transformative impact on society.
President Murmu highlighted the Indian government’s proactive approach in integrating AI into higher education institutions to keep pace with evolving technological trends. She also emphasised the importance of ensuring that these technological disruptions benefit all sections of society, including marginalised groups.

In her speech, the President stressed that while high-end technological interventions are crucial, traditional solutions remain valuable. She encouraged young innovators and entrepreneurs to incorporate indigenous knowledge into their work.
Acknowledging BIT Mesra’s contributions to engineering, research, and innovation, President Murmu noted the institute’s pioneering initiatives. The institution established India’s first Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry in 1964 and was among the first to set up a Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP) in 1975 to foster engineering entrepreneurship.
The President expressed confidence that BIT Mesra would continue to play a significant role in the advancement of science and technology in India.
