President Droupadi Murmu graced the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebrations organized by the Chhattisgarh government in Ambikapur, Surguja. She paid tribute to the rich heritage and contributions of India’s tribal communities, calling their role “a glorious chapter” in India’s democratic history.
Addressing the audience, President Murmu said that tribal traditions including the ancient Muria Darbar, a people’s parliament in Bastar highlight India’s deep-rooted tribal identity. She emphasised that tribal culture has strong links across regions such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
She underscored that over the past decade, the government has introduced major programmes to uplift tribal communities. These include the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan and the PM-JANMAN Abhiyan, launched for the welfare of particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs). According to her, these schemes reflect the government’s high priority for tribal development.
In honour of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the government has also launched the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, the President noted. She highlighted that nearly 20 lakh volunteers will work at the grassroots level to support tribal development through that campaign.
President Murmu also expressed optimism about the decline in Left-Wing Extremism, saying that recent growth in development and organized government efforts are helping bring more tribal people into the mainstream. She praised Chhattisgarh’s ‘Bastar Olympics,’ attended by more than 1.65 lakh people, as a demonstration of community spirit and unity.
She concluded her address by calling upon everyone to follow the path shown by tribal icons, saying their ideals will lead to a prosperous and self-reliant India.
