The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has teamed up with Amazon India to launch #ScamSmartIndia, a campaign aimed at fighting online frauds and scams.
The initiative comes ahead of the festive shopping season, a period often marked by a spike in fraudulent activity. The goal is to make scam literacy simple, accessible, and actionable for people across India.
As part of the campaign, several activities will roll out in the coming weeks. These include social media posts explaining common fraud tactics, digital ads with safety advisories, and flyers inside Amazon deliveries. A special focus will be on Scam-Free September, which will feature weekly multilingual tips to guide shoppers during the high-spending season. A national hackathon is also planned to encourage AI-powered solutions for scam detection.
I4C officials noted that scammers often target vulnerable groups such as first-time internet users and senior citizens. Amazon India pointed out that scammers, by misusing known brand names, do not just trick individuals but also damage consumer confidence in the digital economy.
The collaboration highlights growing concerns, as reports suggest more than half of fraud cases in India now occur online. With scams expected to rise during festivals, both organisations said the campaign aims to equip consumers with tools to detect, avoid, and report fraud.
