Veteran actor and performer Shekhar Suman has stepped into mentorship with the launch of SSFA (Shekhar Suman Film Academy), a new-age acting school designed for aspiring performers and storytellers. The academy aims to bridge the gap between traditional training and the evolving demands of modern cinema and digital content.
With a career spanning over four decades across film, television, theatre, and OTT platforms, Shekhar Suman brings deep industry experience to the initiative. His journey as an actor, writer, director, and presenter has been defined by adaptability and a strong connection to storytelling. SSFA is positioned as a natural extension of that journey, offering structured yet immersive training for emerging talent.
The academy launches with an intensive three-month acting programme, personally designed and largely conducted by Suman himself. The course focuses on key elements of performance, including voice training, speech clarity, emotional depth, body awareness, camera presence, and character development. Students will also be introduced to techniques such as the Linklater Voice Method, along with practical exposure to film language and on-set discipline.
A key highlight of the programme is its hands-on approach. The course culminates in a student film, allowing participants to apply their learning in a real-world setting. In addition to core training, SSFA will host masterclasses featuring actors, casting directors, and filmmakers, offering students direct insights into the industry.
The academy is open to all, regardless of prior experience. Applicants are required to complete a basic self-audition process, ensuring that the selection focuses on potential and passion rather than formal credentials. This approach reflects SSFA’s aim to remain accessible while maintaining a high standard of training.
SSFA is backed by a strong leadership team. Alongside Shekhar Suman, entrepreneur Dharmesh Sangani leads the vision behind the academy, with GBM Studios supporting its scale and development. Adhyayan Suman joins as Founder and Director, bringing a contemporary perspective shaped by his work in acting, music, and direction. Ekant Babani, Partner and COO, oversees operations and strategic execution.
Looking ahead, the academy plans to expand into a broader creative ecosystem, with future programmes in screenwriting, direction, cinematography, music production, and post-production. With registrations now open, SSFA aims to create a space where aspiring artists can learn, experiment, and grow in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape.
