If you often rely on food delivery, you may soon notice a change in your bill. Swiggy increases platform fee to ₹15 per order, while Zomato has also pushed up its charges. For regular users, these small jumps can add up quickly.
Swiggy’s fee has gone up quickly, first from ₹12 to ₹14, and now to ₹15 in some cities. This is the biggest jump since April 2023, when the fee started at only ₹2. With more than 20 lakh orders every day, the new rate could bring Swiggy around ₹3 crore daily, and more than ₹200 crore in a year.
Zomato is also testing higher charges during the festive season. The company often makes small changes to see how people react before keeping them permanent.
Both companies are under pressure to earn more as costs keep rising. By increasing platform fees, they can improve profits without cutting customer discounts or reducing delivery partner payments. Analysts say this is a way to handle the festive rush and still protect margins.
For most of us, ordering food is no longer a luxury. It has become part of daily life, whether it’s a late-night biryani, a quick lunch at work, or a Sunday treat with family. So when Swiggy increases platform fee or Zomato adds a little more, people feel it straight away. A ₹2 or ₹3 jump may not sound big, but over many orders in a month, it adds up. Families who rely on food delivery notice these changes the most. For students and working people living away from home, every extra rupee matters.
The hikes come at a time when both food delivery giants are struggling financially. Swiggy’s losses nearly doubled in the first quarter of FY26 to ₹1,197 crore. Zomato also saw profits fall by 90 percent even though its revenue grew. The higher platform fees are now their way of balancing business needs with growing demand.
