Record-Breaking Boeing Deal Signed During Trump’s Visit to Doha
In a high-profile move that has stirred global attention, Donald Trump secured a massive $200 billion deal between Qatar Airways and Boeing during his visit to Doha. The agreement includes the purchase of 160 jets, marking one of the largest aircraft orders in aviation history.
Trump, currently serving as US President, called the deal “a record” and urged Boeing to “get those planes out there.” The announcement came during his first official visit to the Gulf region since returning to office.
Boeing Bags Its Biggest
The deal includes:
- 80 Boeing 777X wide-body aircraft
- 60 737 MAX single-aisle jets
- 20 Dreamliners for long-haul expansion
This transaction positions Boeing for a significant production boost, reinforcing its status as a global aerospace leader. The White House described it as a “win for American jobs and industry.”
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker called the deal “strategic and future-focused,” aligning with the airline’s goals to expand capacity ahead of major events like the 2030 Asian Games in Doha.
Lavish Welcome in Doha
Trump was warmly welcomed by Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the opulent Al Wajba Palace, which Trump famously described as “a nice house—very nice.”
Social media lit up with footage of the elaborate reception, including a red carpet, national honour guards, and traditional Qatari performances.
According to Al Jazeera’s live updates, Trump and the Emir also discussed regional security, energy cooperation, and defence partnerships, including the ongoing presence of US forces at Al Udeid Air Base.
Political Buzz Back Home
While Trump celebrated the commercial win abroad, reactions at home were mixed. According to an NPR report, several Democrats questioned the timing of the trip amid domestic economic concerns and ongoing congressional disputes.
Republicans, on the other hand, hailed the agreement as proof of Trump’s deal-making prowess and diplomatic leverage.
The 160-plane deal is expected to create thousands of jobs across American manufacturing hubs, especially in states like Washington and South Carolina, where Boeing has major facilities.
Economic & Strategic Implications
Beyond commercial impact, the agreement strengthens Qatar-US ties—particularly at a time when Gulf nations are recalibrating their alliances.
Trump hinted at further bilateral agreements, including energy and defence pacts. He also suggested that Qatar might play a key role in Middle East peace discussions in the coming months.
The visit marks a turning point in US-Qatar relations, with both sides projecting it as a win-win partnership.
