National Award-winning filmmaker Sujay Dahake is back with a thought-provoking Marathi film that promises to spark conversations beyond the cinema hall. The trailer of his upcoming film ‘Tujhya Aaila’ was unveiled today, offering audiences a glimpse into a story that explores an issue deeply embedded in everyday conversations verbal abuse.
Known for his distinctive storytelling and socially relevant films such as Shala and Shyamchi Aai, Sujay Dahake turns his attention to the way abusive language has gradually become normalised in society. The film does not simply focus on the words people use, but questions why certain expressions have become so common that their emotional impact is often overlooked.
The title ‘Tujhya Aaila’ itself immediately grabs attention. However, behind the provocative title is a narrative rooted in emotion, childhood and social conditioning. The film’s intriguing tagline, “It’s not a swear word. It’s the name of a game,” further hints at the unconventional world the story explores.
At the heart of the film is a simple yet uncomfortable question: When did abuse become a language we stopped hearing? The trailer explores how words involving a mother who is traditionally seen as a symbol of love, care and respect can be casually turned into insults in everyday communication.
Through this unusual premise, Tujhya Aaila examines the impact that repeated verbal abuse can have on relationships, behaviour and the emotional development of children. Instead of delivering straightforward answers, the film encourages viewers to pause and think about the language they have grown accustomed to using.
Set against the backdrop of rural Maharashtra, the film brings together childhood innocence, friendship, nostalgia and playful memories while gradually revealing the darker implications of language. What initially appears to be an innocent childhood game develops into a deeper exploration of values, social conditioning and the way communication shapes young minds.
The film brings together an accomplished cast along with a talented group of child artistes. Rajshri Deshpande, Rohini Hattangadi, Sambhaji Bhagat, Abhijit Thite, Soham Babar and Abhishek Zende feature in the film alongside its ensemble of young performers.
Produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and Murlidhar Chhatwani under Panorama Studios; Suunil Jaiin and Aditya Joshi under Cult Digital; and Rajesh Singh under Prakash Films, the film is co-produced by Sushant Vengurlekar, Mohit Aroora and Meghana Pramanik.
With its unconventional title, socially relevant subject and Sujay Dahake’s distinctive storytelling, Tujhya Aaila aims to offer audiences more than entertainment. The film seeks to start a conversation about the words people use casually and the consequences those words can leave behind.
‘Tujhya Aaila’ is scheduled to release in theatres across Maharashtra on September 25.
