An avalanche struck near Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Friday, burying a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp and trapping 55 workers. Rescue teams have so far saved 47 individuals, with efforts ongoing to locate the remaining eight.
The avalanche occurred during a highway construction project near the Tibet border. Adverse weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and poor visibility, have hindered rescue operations.

Despite these challenges, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Army continue their search efforts.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been in contact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured full support for the rescue operations.
The region’s susceptibility to avalanches and flash floods has been exacerbated by global warming, leading to increased frequency of such disasters.
