The second day of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025, organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), saw global leaders unite to strengthen climate ambition, enhance adaptation frameworks, and drive climate justice.

A ministerial session, “Multilateralism on the Road to COP30 and COP33,” brought together policymakers, strategists, and climate experts to discuss the urgent need for updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0). The discussions reinforced the role of the Global Stocktake (GST) and the UAE-Belém Work Programme in ensuring accountability and impactful climate action.
As nations gear up for COP30 in Belém, Brazil, India has formally submitted a bid to host COP33, positioning itself as a key advocate for the Global South in climate negotiations.

Science-Driven Climate Action: Prof. Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), warned that limiting global warming to 1.5°C is now “hanging by a slender thread.”
Brazil’s Climate Commitment: H.E. Marina Silva, Brazil’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasised that the transition to a low-carbon economy must be both swift and just.Global Cooperation: Norway’s Minister of Climate and the Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, highlighted the need for stronger international collaboration to tackle the planetary crisis.
Financial and Governance Reforms: Germany’s Special Envoy Jennifer Lee Morgan and 350.org’s Executive Director Anne Jellema stressed the importance of systemic reforms, climate funding, and grassroots participation.
Private Sector Engagement: Helen Clarkson, CEO of Climate Group, called for sector-specific transition plans and clearer investment frameworks to drive business-led climate action.
This high-level session reaffirmed India’s leadership in international climate diplomacy. With COP30 on the horizon and India’s COP33 bid in motion, the WSDS 2025 discussions outlined a pathway for strengthened multilateral climate governance and actionable climate solutions.
