Coke Studio Bharat has released its latest track of Season 3 titled Meetha Khaara. The song arrives in the festive season of Navratri and carries forward the success of Khalasi, which became a cultural phenomenon last year.
Curated and composed by Siddharth Amit Bhavsar, the track brings together the voices of folk artist Aditya Gadhvi, singer Madhubanti Bagchi, and young talent Thanu Khan. With lyrics by Bhargav Purohit, Meetha Khaara blends traditional Gujarati folk with contemporary sounds, while spotlighting the heritage of the state’s Agariya community.
Tribute to the Agariya Community
The Agariyas, who have been engaged in salt farming in Gujarat for over 600 years, stand at the heart of this composition. In Gujarati, “meethu” means salt—essential yet born of struggle. For generations, the community has lived with this paradox where salt is both their hardship (khaara) and their sweetest inheritance (meetha). The song captures this duality, transforming it into a narrative of resilience and identity.
Collective Crafting of the Song
Meetha Khaara was shaped through the collaborative efforts of its creators. Bhargav Purohit’s lyrics anchor the song in authenticity, while Bhavsar’s composition brings the struggles and spirit of the Agariyas into a contemporary soundscape. Gadhvi’s powerful vocals, Bagchi’s emotive expression, and Khan’s unique touch complete the harmony of the track.
Composer Siddharth Amit Bhavsar said the song “grew out of folk roots” and evolved organically with each layer of rhythm and instrumentation. Lyricist Bhargav Purohit described writing the piece as an opportunity to honour the experiences of the Agariya community.
Aditya Gadhvi, who previously led Khalasi, called Meetha Khaara a continuation of that journey, presenting folk stories from Gujarat in a modern form. Madhubanti Bagchi described the project as a chance to blend tradition with personal artistry, while Thanu Khan said being part of Coke Studio Bharat was “a dream come true.”
