HYBE has announced the international success of its animated series Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, based on the original webtoon story, following its global launch on 9th January. The series has quickly risen to prominence on major streaming platforms and online animation communities.
Created in collaboration with K-pop sensation ENHYPEN, the series brings a vampire-themed narrative to life through immersive transmedia storytelling. Its debut on Crunchyroll, the world’s largest animation streaming platform, earned a 4.8 out of 5 rating. On MyAnimeList, it initially ranked 10th in both the ‘Now Watching’ and ‘Trending’ categories and later climbed to No. 7 in ‘Trending’ following the release of Episode 2.
Crunchyroll highlighted the global accessibility of the series, offering subtitles in nine languages and dubbing in eight, enabling fans worldwide to enjoy the animation. The platform described the series as “captivating” and noted the continued engagement from international viewers.
The animated series has also renewed interest in the original webtoon. More than two years after its conclusion, the webtoon reached No. 1 in the ‘Completed’ category on WEBTOON in Japan, Latin America, Indonesia, and Germany. It also ranked No. 2 in France and No. 3 in Thailand and North America.
HYBE stated that the animation is introducing new audiences to the DARK MOON universe, encouraging exploration across multiple media formats. The company plans to further expand its original story intellectual property (IP) and transmedia content in global markets, leveraging the series’ success to strengthen its storytelling ecosystem.
