The Indian Marine Ingredients Association (IMIA) has completed the second important phase of its national sustainability initiative for India’s marine ingredients industry. The latest phase brings the Maharashtra–Goa Small Pelagic Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) and the Indian West Coast Multi-Species Trawler FIP into the association’s national framework for responsible fisheries development.
The move is part of IMIA’s broader effort to establish a coordinated approach to responsible fisheries management across India. Through this initiative, the association is working towards bringing different fisheries improvement efforts under a common national direction.
IMIA is promoting the concept of ‘One India–One Fishery Improvement Project’ as part of its sustainability mission. The approach focuses on bringing fragmented efforts together within a coordinated framework.
The association said the initiative is aimed at strengthening responsible fisheries development across the country. It also seeks to enhance India’s credibility in global markets through a more coordinated approach to fisheries improvement.
Second Phase of National Sustainability Initiative
The inclusion of the Maharashtra–Goa Small Pelagic FIP and the Indian West Coast Multi-Species Trawler FIP marks the second important phase of IMIA’s national sustainability initiative.
According to the association, the two Fishery Improvement Projects have now been incorporated into its national framework for responsible fisheries development.
Dr. Mohammed Dawood Sait, President of the Association, said, “The inclusion of the Maharashtra–Goa Small Pelagic FIP and the West Coast Trawler FIP marks the second important phase of our national sustainability initiative.”
He added that the association will now work towards expanding the effort to Tamil Nadu through the proposed West Coast and East Coast FIPs.
The latest development therefore represents another step in IMIA’s effort to create a coordinated national framework for fisheries improvement.
Focus on a Common National Direction

The proposed expansion is part of the association’s wider objective of developing a coordinated national approach to fisheries improvement.
