The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to revolutionise cheque processing in the country, slashing clearance time from up to two working days to just a few hours. Starting 4 October 2025, banks will move from batch-based cheque clearance to a Continuous Clearing and Settlement on Realisation system under the Cheque Truncation System (CTS). This will ensure cheques are scanned, presented, and cleared continuously during business hours.
